Workout Variety: It's the Spice to a Fit Life!

As I have mentioned, I've done many of the Beachbody programs - P90X, Insanity, TurboFire, and Chalean Extreme.  I love them all, and what I really love is having all of them at my disposal to mix and mingle so that I can make my own daily blend of a workout program.

Another thing I've started doing is working out with my kids.  They have been going to a sports trainer for about 6 months, and I have to admit, I've been a little bit jealous (I loved my time of working out with a personal trainer).  Their fitness levels have improved dramatically, so I decided I wanted to check out what they were doing.

After day one of the shared workout, I could barely move.  So how can it be that after completing some of the hardest workouts in the business (Tony Horton, Shaun T, etc), and being more physically fit that I've ever been, one little ole workout can turn me into a hobbling mess?

Well, rather than be discouraged by this, I'm actually thrilled!  Have you ever heard of plateaus?  After my first few days of P90X and Insanity, I was so sore - I can remember crawling up the stairs after my first Insanity workout.  But after, 60-90 days of the programs, I was rocking it!

That is where the variety comes in - and that is how variety can knock you off your plateaus!  When I do something different and I feel it the next day, I know I've just taken my body to the next level!

So, I've now done 3 workouts with the kids, and yes, I'm still sore.  I also added in a P90X Kenpo workout on Sunday, which I hadn't done for a while.  That one really made my arms and calves wake up and take notice as well.

When I got out of bed this morning, sure, I was kind of hunched over and walking like a duck with my tight, scrunced up calves, but man alive, I'm excited that I can still up the ante on my fitness levels.
However, I'm thinking today, maybe a good stretch routine would be in order.
